This week at DLFA, a student stepped into the world of poetry—where language bends, breathes, and begins to sing. The session wasn’t about rhyme schemes or rigid rules. It was about unlocking voice, emotion, and rhythm.
The journey began with reading: short poems, spoken word pieces, and lyrical fragments. Each one sparked a question. What makes a line powerful? How does silence between words shape meaning? The student leaned in, curious and engaged.
Then came the writing. Prompts invited personal reflection, sensory detail, and metaphor. A simple memory became a verse. A quiet thought turned into a stanza. The student discovered how punctuation, spacing, and repetition could transform plain sentences into poetic expression.
One standout moment arrived when the student read their own poem aloud—softly at first, then with growing confidence. The imagery was vivid, the emotion honest. That voice, once hesitant, now carried weight.
DLFA’s poetry sessions aren’t just about writing—they’re about awakening. When students learn to shape language with intention and heart, they begin to see the world differently. And this week, one student did just that.
